| Hello! Thanks for visiting my website. My name is Matt Ouwinga and I live in the chicago land area. Bonsai has been a huge passion of mine since I was 17 years old. When was 21 I went to Japan for the first time and saw the Kokufu-en exhibit and was even more inspired to follow my dream of going to Japan to study bonsai. About a year later I came in contact Mr. Yoshi Nakamizu who organized the International School of Bonsai through Mr. Kunio Kobayashi who at the time won more Kokufu-ten and Sakufu-ten grand prizes than any other bonsai master. Mr. Nakamizu and I talked regularly and I decided that going to study was something I had to do. For a summer I lived, worked, and studied bonsai in Japan under Mr. Kobayashi. Being a high school teacher, the time frame for my leaving the states and going to study in Japan worked out nicely with my 3 month summer vacation. During my study in Japan I was able to work on and see some of the finest bonsai in the world. I am very grateful to Mr. Kobayashi, Mr. Nakamizu, and the apprentices at Shunkaen (Mr. Kobayshi's bonsai museum) to make my dream of doing bonsai in Japan a reality, and doing bonsai in the U.s. at a professional level. To see more of where I studied, here is the website http://www.kunio-kobayashi.com/ Since my return from Japan two years ago, I had the opportunity to lecture, demonstrate, conduct workshops, and judge several bonsai shows across the U.S. If you like to consider me to come to your bonsai club, please visit my link Bonsai Services |
